Talent Award of Korea
The award recognises people who create new value through creativity and drive and contribute to their community, so that they can grow into leaders of the country. It began in 2001 as the "Outstanding Talent for the 21st Century" award and has honoured 100 people a year under its current name since 2008. In 2016 the 100 comprised 50 high-school students, 40 university students, and 10 young adults, chosen through teacher and principal nominations, regional screening, and a central committee's document review and in-depth interview. I received it while at Kwanak High School; it is conferred in the name of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and carries a KRW 3 million prize.
Of the 100 recipients, the Ministry chose three whose stories were shown in a video at the ceremony — one of them was mine: teaching myself to program and building Winklick to help people with disabilities communicate. The ceremony was held on 24 November 2016 at Sejong Hall, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Seoul.
