The talk was titled "Introduction to Vibrotactile Stimulus & Interface," split into two halves: how a stimulus is received, and how one is delivered.

The receiving half starts from the distinction that haptic perception is tactile sensing plus kinesthetic sensing. It covers the mechanoreceptors of the skin (SA1, SA2, RA1, RA2) and how spatial acuity varies across the body; the dimensions of a vibrotactile stimulus — an intensity range of 55 dB above the detection threshold, a perceptible band of 10–400 Hz peaking at 250 Hz, and durations below 10 ms that merge into a single percept — then rhythms and tactons, and the tactile illusions: funneling, saltation, tau, kappa.

The delivering half surveys stimuli beyond vibration (deformation, electrostatic, ultrasound), then works through the best placement for vibration pads on the wrist, phantom stimulus that builds continuous motion out of stimulus onset asynchrony, and Kildal compliance, which manufactures softness on a rigid surface.
